To quench the thirst of viewers like you, I have researched and written a blog that may help you decide the route that is best for you. So, read the blog till the end to learn about the different sample routes and timelines for the Everest Region trek. 

Everest Base Camp Trek

Open the notebook where your trekking bucket list is written and add the Everest Base Camp Short Trek. You can go for a hike, even if you are a beginner.

In the EBC trek, you will be trekking up to an altitude of 5643 m from Lukla to the EBC route while facing a moderate level of challenge.

Moreover, you will trek for 12 to 14 days, which includes acclimatization days, with the trek starting at 2800m and reaching above 5000m. Below is the detailed itinerary outline with a description of the EBC hike.

•Day 1-2: Fly to Lukla, Trek to Phakding

By making enough preparations for the trek, you will land in Lukla. From there, you will start your trekking journey towards EBC. The first destination you will start is a hike to Phakding.

Phakding is a wonderful place. On the way to Phakding, you will cross through forested valleys and suspension bridges and encounter local peoples of villages like Chheplung, Nachipang, Koshiguan, and Ghat.

During this hike, you will walk approximately 7.5km until you reach Phakding. It will take around 2.5 hours to complete the hike.

•Day 3: Phakding to Namche Bazaar

Nothing is much more loving and alluring than the moment with the stunning mountain vistas of Thamserku, Taboche, Everest, and Kongde. Along with this scenery, you will encounter the Sherpa community and a suspension bridge over the Dudhkoshi River.

On this journey, you will be passing through Toktok village and a waterfall before reaching Namche Bazaar.

The trek includes walking 10.8 km with an 830 m elevation gain. You will finish the walk in 6 to 7 hours. Along the way, you will get to enjoy rivers, forests, local guest houses, and restaurants.

•Day 4: Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar

After all, we are humans. We are comfortable in our own environment. If you are trekking away from your comfort zone, then you may feel fatigue or dizziness. These are the symptoms of altitude sickness.

So, to overcome or avoid altitude sickness, you will spend the full day in Namche Bazaar. This will help you to adapt to the altitude and weather.

On this day, you will explore the town, visit Sherpa villages, and a hike to the hotels for the views of Mt. Everest. This activity will keep your body healthy by slowly adjusting to the reduced oxygen level at higher altitudes.

•Day 5: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche

After the refreshing activities in the Namche Bazaar, it’s time to hike further. You will trek to Tengboche. This journey will take approximately 5 to 6 hours to complete.

Along the way, you will pass a peak named Ama Dablam and the surrounding mountains, interacting with local peoples of villages like Lawishawa along the Dudh Khosi River on a suspension bridge.

Moreover, in this trek, you will be climbing slopes and varying terrains. You will get the opportunity to learn about the unique technology used to warm the lodge. It is only found in the region where yak dung-powered heating is used. 

•Day 6: Tengboche to Dingboche

Add more layers to your clothes because you will feel cold. Yes, you heard it right. In this trek, you will experience high winds and cold temperatures.

This journey will take 6 hours to complete, and you have to walk around 10.5 km. Along the journey, you will get to enjoy the scenic vistas of the Ama Dablam mountain.

•Day 7: Acclimatization Day in Dingboche

Acclimatization is a must. This is the second rest day of the Everest Base Camp Short Trek. You will hike Nangkartshang Peak. This hike presents panoramas of peaks like Mt. Tawache, Ama Dablam, Island Peak, Lhotse, Everest, and Pumori.

•Day 8: Dingboche to Lobuche

Walking frequently gives you health benefits. In this part of the trek, you will walk 8.5 km before reaching Lobuche. It will take approximately 4 to 5 hours to reach your destination. For nature lovers, there is a beautiful opportunity to hike through scenic peaks like Ama Dablam, Tabuche, and Lobuche, which are visible along the way. Moreover, you will also visit Memorial Park, which was established in honor of the lost mountaineers.

•Day 9: Lobuche to Gorak Shep, Visit Everest Base Camp, Return to Gorak Shep

While you go somewhere, you will learn new things. The same thing happens when hiking to the Gorak Shep. By walking 3.5km until reaching Gorak Shep, you will learn the importance of physical fitness. So, be serious about your health while trekking.

You will trek rocky landscapes which is located in high altitudes along the way. This is going to be challenging itself. So, you can take rest whenever needed to prevent altitude sickness. After spending some time in EBC, you will hike back to Gorak shep.

•Day 10: Gorak Shep to Pangboche

After spending the night in the Gorak Shep, you will trek back to Pangboche through challenging landscapes.

This journey presents you with the views of the Himalayas despite having difficulties like altitude sickness and physical strain. You can rest at the different stops along the path.

•Day 11: Pangboche to Namche Bazaar, Lukla, and fly to Kathmandu

After Pangboche, you hike back to Namche Bazaar, passing through  Tengboche monastery and crossing the Dudh Koshi River.

In this journey, you will hike back to Lukl. The distance between Lukla and Namche Bazaar is 15 km, and it takes 8 hours to complete the journey.

You will hike through Shomare, crossing Hillary Bridge and the forest. Then you will reach Lukla. From there,  you can take a 10-minute flight back to Kathmandu.

Everest Three Passes Trek

Everest high passes trek presents you with views of places like Everest Base Camp, Gokyo Lake, and other places. For this trek, you have to train to face altitude challenges. 

•Day 1-2: Fly to Lukla and hike to it on the first and second days

You will land in Lukla and hike to Monzo, enjoying the Himalayan vistas and terrains.

•Day 3: Monjo to Namche Bazaar

This part of the trek is a little difficult because you have to walk roughly 8 km in 5 hours. During this journey, You will pass through diverse landscapes and suspension bridges with an altitude gain of 485m.

•Day 4, 5, and 6: Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar and then hiking to Pangboche, Dingboche

On the fourth day, you will acclimatize to adapt to the altitude changes. After that, you will trek to Pangboche and then to Dinboche. This hiking path is similar to the EBC trek.

•Day 7: Dingboche to Chukhung

This is the most important part of the trek. In cinematic language, this is the climax of the journey. You will be crossing the three passes, which is the main feature of this trek. The three passes include Kongma La, Cho La, and Renjo La.

If you are fit and have taken enough training before the trek,  then you will cover 5.03 km from Dinboche to Chukhung in a maximum of 3 to 4 hours.

On the way, you will get to experience the beauty of the Himalayas with fluttering prayer flags and Chortens enjoying dramatic landscapes like Island Peak.

Before crossing Kongma La, you will travel through the Chukung, which is situated at an altitude of about 4,730 m.

•Day 8: Chukhung Ri Hike

Chukhung Ri hike presents panoramic views down the Khumbu Valley. In this trek, you will face challenges at 5,550m altitude.

Normally, you have to walk 5.03 km starting from Dinboche and through the valley to Chukhung.

 While going for a hike, you have to be careful as this hike can be exhausting due to the high altitude, and you may face altitude-related problems.

Day 9: Crossing Kongma La, Lobuche to Gorak Shep

In this hike, you will cross Kongma La, along with Cho La and Renjo La, reaching EBC at an altitude of 5,364m and then returning to Gorak Shep for an overnight stay.

This journey offers you vistas of peaks like Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, and surrounding peaks.

•Day 10: Kala Patthar Hike, trek to Everest Base Camp and return to Lukla

After staying overnight at the lodge, you will go for a Kala Patthar hike. On the way, you will see the beautiful sunrise along with the scenery of Mt. Everest.

After that, you will trek to EBC and then return to Lukla. On the return journey, you will follow the same itinerary route as the EBC trek.

Island Peak Climbing with EBC

This one is my favorite trek. Island peak climbing with EBC is a trek that you can do with a moderate level of challenges. It presents more thrill and adventure compared to the only EBC trek. The Island Peak trek generally includes the following itinerary.

•Day 1 to 2- Arrival and Preparation in Kathmandu:

At the beginning of the trek, you will arrive in Kathmandu and prepare for the hike. Your preparation includes both mental and physical training. This preparation is done to make sure that you are safe during climbing.

Days 3 to 9- flying to Lukla, trekking to Phakding, Namche Bazaar, and Dinboche/ Acclimatization and then trek to Island Base Camp

From day 3 to day 8, you will follow the same route as the EBC trek. On the ninth day of trekking, you will head towards the Island Base Camp.

This hike includes a trek from Dinboche to Island Base Camp, going through rocky, icy terrain, glaciers, and a steep headwall using crampons and ice axes.

On the journey, you will get to acclimate to the altitude and enjoy the Sherpa’s hospitality.

•Day 10, 11- Summit Day and Return journey

The main part of the hike is in which you will be climbing the 6189m high peak. You will start the summit early in the morning, at 1 AM, to avoid the strong winds and reach the peak by noon.

You will have to face a 120 m vertical trek at a 45-degree slope on the headwall before reaching the summit after passing rocky and icy terrain with hard shell boots and crampons.

Moreover, you may need to go from deep open cracks in the glacier using ladders and ropes. After that, you will get to enjoy the panoramas of the area. After the summit, you climb down to Chukhung through Imja Valley for lodging.

The next day, you will hike to Dinboche, Tengboche, Namche Bazaar, and Lukla. From Lukla, you will take a flight to Kathmandu.
